Boise State University Campus Operations’ Texie Montoya, Associate Special Counsel, has been selected to receive the 2017 Outstanding Young Lawyer Award by the Board of Commissioners of the Idaho State Bar. The award is given to an Idaho attorney younger than 37 or in the first five years of practice, to recognize the attorney’s commitment to the legal profession through a contribution of time and resources benefitting Idaho lawyers and the public. The award will be presented at the Idaho State Bar Annual Meeting July 13.
Montoya’s work as Associate Special Counsel involves advising campus clients which include the Department of Public Safety, the Athletics Department, and University Advancement. She has worked at Boise State since 2012.
Prior to joining Boise State, she clerked for the Honorable Stephen M. Brown at the Washington State Court of Appeals – Division III in Spokane, Washington.
Montoya received her bachelor’s degree from Boise State, where she served as Student Body Vice President and delivered the commencement address with her twin sister in 2006. She earned her Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, where she served as President of the Student Bar Association.
Montoya is a member of the Board of Directors of Go Lead Idaho, a non-partisan non-profit whose mission is to motivate women to lead and demonstrate why it matters. She volunteers with the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage, South Boise Little League, and the Women’s and Children’s Alliance. Montoya also volunteers to judge high school mock trial and constitutional argument competitions through Attorneys for Civic Education. She is a member of the community service committee of Idaho Women Lawyers, serves as the chair of the Government and Public Sector Lawyers section of the Idaho State Bar, and is a member of the executive committee of the Young Lawyers section.
Texie grew up in Boise and married a Borah High School classmate in July 2016. Texie enjoys traveling, running, and baking.
